HISTORY & ECO-CONCIOUSNESS

HISTORICAL PRESERVATION
It’s no secret that Lydia loves antiques. Their beauty and oddities are attractive- but what really draws us to them is their spirit. We believe every item has something of a man-made soul- from the well worn rawhide head of the mallet we use to stamp Monster Soap, to the tarnished silver of what was a grandma’s sewing snips now used in our chapbook sewing.
We employ history. Not just for their vanity, but because they hold human connection to the past while still being of use. All antique tools we seek for use in the Coyoteprince studio have been found for cheap or gifted, repaired by Lydia, and set off on a new life to help us create. We’ve found this to be an incredibly important aspect of our studio for the human connection, a way to show respect to the past (as well as the tool!), and a way to diminish our consumption of single-use and modern wasteful practices.
We do also use modern tools and occasional single-use things, but are constantly looking for new options to further reduce the need, often looking to the past and modern eco-movements for inspiration.
